The Skipper Too.....

Okay. The Skipper. Trapped, for years, on this little tropical oasis, with nothing but fish, bananas and coconuts to eat. Never lost weight. What's up with that?

You've spent the last few days viewing horrific movies. You know you had to. Kind of like Everest. It was there. But now you want to scrub your eyes out with bleach. Lo, and behold, another box! You tear the box to shreds in hopes that inside there just may be a shotgun and clay-pigeon launcher, just so that you may get some entertainment value out of those lousy DVDs.

But wait! Could it be? The fixin's for the absolute best meal ever! All your favorites! No coconut delight tonight! So, honey, what's for dinner?

Pot roast, cooked to perfection. So tender it falls apart with a fork. Spiced just right. Not too heavy, just a hint. Fresh egg noodles, slightly aldente. Green peas. Canned are fine, but most assuredly not frozen. A nice savory gravy. All blended into a casserole-like fusion of yummy goodness. Mmmmm...

What's on your menu?

A two-inch thick sirloin, marinated in garlic-teriaki(sp?) sauce, cooked just enough to pass a health inspection, and covered with sauteed mushrooms and grilled onions. Baked sweet potatos with sour cream and real butter. Steamed asparagus, freshly baked dinner rolls, and New York style cheesecake, with no fruit or ANYTHING on it. And to drink, a bottle of Little Penguin Merlot. And Mary-Ann for desert. ;-)

Tossed baby greens with a strawberry vinaigrette. Beef Wellington with fois gras and a duxelle of mushrooms. Steamed asparagus with garlic beurre blanc. Baked brie with figs and almonds. And for dessert? Custard filled eclairs with a dark chocolate ganache.

Ok, can I assume I have had all the langusta I can handle since the sea has been kind? ;)

Roast Beef Rare and American Yorkshire pudding (the popover kind, made with the meat drippings), fresh beets cooked just until tender, homemade bread and danish butter, and Aunt Rachel's Sour Creame torte. She's not my Aunt, but she sure can cook.

Well... my first two choices would be lobster or crab, but since those are sea creatures I guess I'll go with #3:

Filet Mignon (maybe 2 filets, since it'll be a long time...), rare. I mean walk it into the kitchen, bathe it, scare it with stories about fire, and bring it to me rare. Served with asparagus drizzled with a light lemon-butter sauce, a loaded baked potato (real butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese, real bacon crumbles and some diced green onion), a basket full of Roz's cheese fritters (if you like cheddar cheese and you like hot bread, OHMYGOD!!!!!), a nice full bodied fruity red wine like a Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône, or maybe a lighter Cabernet Franc. For dessert, a box of dark chocolates from DeBrand - a little gourmet shop located only in Fort Wayne, Indiana (the ONLY thing I miss about Fort Wayne!). Their fruit fillings are tart, rather than sweet, fruity and absolutely sublime. The blend of dark chocolate and tart raspberry, cherry or apricot is like heaven on earth. Add a cup of really good coffee and alternate bites of chocolate with sips of the red wine and sips of coffee and you can spend an hour on one piece of chocolate. mmmmmmm..........

A terrific steak, grilled just right with the right spices. A baked potato with all the fixings. A tossed salad with a creamy italian dressing. Warm bread with butter.

And for dessert - Zabaligone with strawberries.
